Body Tree Map 2 explores concealment and revelation through layers of tape, masking fluid, and plaster, letting the painting's history surface over time. The piece returns to the urban wooded landscapes of my East Coast childhood for inspiration, where vertical tree-like forms meet tangled, looping vines.
The layering sequence was mapped out before I began — a strategy that dissolves any resistance to starting. Predetermining the structure gives me just enough intention to dive in, while leaving room to add and shift layers as the painting evolves.
