A Look At My Process In The Studio

In this short video the viewer can get an inside look into how I use layering as an essential strategy in my painting process. Materials used in my process are also demonstrated. Enjoy!

For the past two weeks I’ve been experimenting in the studio with smaller canvases. I wanted to introduce masking fluid as another material to layer in my process. This painting has under layers of paint, tape, plaster, ink, and graphite drawing. I wanted to see if adding masking fluid would create curved edges in contrast with the sharper geometric mark of the tape line. Scroll to the end to see what the painting looks like after all the tape and masking was escavated through the painted layers.

At first it’s always a little disappointing when what is revealed after all the layers are pulled isn’t complete and working. Such is the case here though I’m not disappointed because I do see that there is potential! Onward!!
